Ghost Controls Access Control Installation: The Missouri City Owner’s Guide

Ghost Controls access control installation in Missouri City typically runs $425-$780 installed, depending on which keypad or receiver module your system uses and whether the existing wiring is reusable. We stock Ghost Controls-compatible keypads, receivers, and wiring kits on our trucks, and installation usually takes one visit. Most Missouri City owners discover a failed access control part the same way: the keypad stops sending a signal, the remote works but the keypad doesn’t, or the gate starts opening on its own after a rainstorm. Here’s exactly what we’ve learned taking these systems apart across Missouri City, from Sienna Plantation to Riverstone to the older sections along Cartwright Road.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls runs three main product lines that show up on Missouri City driveways: the AXDP (dual-swing arm), AXS (single-swing arm), and the TSS1/TDS1 sliding gate openers. Access control on any of these means the keypad (AXKP numeric pad or the newer wireless touchpad), the receiver module that talks to the main control board, or the wired vehicle sensor loop. The compatibility gotcha we see often: the older AXDP boards use a different receiver frequency than the post-2021 revisions. If you order a replacement receiver online without checking the board revision printed on the control board label, you’ll get a module that physically fits but won’t bind. We check that label before we quote anything. For OEM versus aftermarket: Ghost Controls OEM keypads are the only ones we install on warranty-covered systems, but we stock a quality aftermarket receiver that works fine on out-of-warranty boards and saves Missouri City homeowners about $60-$90 per unit. We’ll show you both options with prices written down before starting.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. This usually points to a failed receiver module or a lost binding code after a power surge. The keypad is fine; the communication link is not.
  • Gate opens intermittently from the keypad only. In Missouri City humidity, corrosion on the keypad wiring terminals or inside the junction box is common. We find green oxidation on the connector pins more often than a dead keypad.
  • Remote works, keypad doesn’t. That isolates the problem to the keypad itself or its dedicated input channel on the control board, not the motor or receiver.
  • Gate cycles open and closed repeatedly after a hard rain. Water intrusion into the keypad housing or the receiver enclosure can bridge contacts and send false signals. This one sends Missouri City owners running for the master switch.
  • New keypad installed but the code won’t save. Ghost Controls keypads pair with a master code sequence; if the control board is an older revision, it may need a firmware-compatible keypad. We see this with boards dated before 2019.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed pricing in Missouri City breaks down like this:

  • Ghost Controls keypad (wireless model): $425-$540 installed
  • Receiver module replacement: $380-$470 installed
  • Wired vehicle sensor loop (detector and wiring): $550-$780 installed
  • Full access control add-on to an existing Ghost Controls opener: $650-$850 installed

The range depends on wiring condition, mounting distance from the gate, and whether we’re replacing one component or building out a full keypad-plus-receiver setup. Every quote is written down and handed to you before any work starts, no exceptions. The price we write is the price you pay. Labor, parts, and the post-install photo log are all in that number. Workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the installation isn’t right, we make it right within a full year at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. You can check the obvious: battery corrosion in the keypad compartment, loose terminal screws, and whether the keypad beeps when you press a button. That’s diagnostics, not disassembly, and it tells us a lot when you call. What you shouldn’t do is open the control board enclosure and start probing with a multimeter unless you know what you’re doing. Ghost Controls boards carry 12VDC on the logic side but the motor supply side can carry 12-24VAC depending on the system, and a crossed wire can fry the board outright. On a residential gate, the access control wiring is low-voltage but the actuator and power supply are not always forgiving. If the keypad is more than six years old in Missouri City humidity and you can’t get it to respond to a fresh battery and a clean terminal, that points to a failed internal board. At that point, call us at (346) 253-1761. We’ll name what we find, hand you a written price, and have it running. Adrian Vance has been doing this since 2014, and his crew has replaced enough Ghost Controls receivers in Missouri City to keep the right modules stocked on the truck.
