Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls builds openers for three gate configurations: single swing, dual swing, and slide. The welding and fabrication work we do follows that same split. On swing gates, the failure points are the post pivot brackets, the arm mount plate, and the gate-side clevis. On slide gates, it’s the chain bracket, the idler mount, and occasionally the gate frame itself where the opener connects.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Missouri City: Ghost Controls changed the bolt pattern on their post pivot brackets between the original AXP series and the current R series. A bracket from an older AXP will not bolt up to a new R-series post mount without modification. Before you buy a bracket online, pull the part number off the opener arm label. If the label is gone, measure the bolt spacing. The R series uses a 4-1/2 inch spread. The older AXP uses 3-3/4. Mismeasure that and you’ll be welding a plate to make it fit anyway.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate hesitates or binds at one point in its travel. That’s the gate sagging because a hinge weld has cracked, or a post mount has shifted. The opener motor keeps pushing, but the geometry is off.
• You see a fresh rust line around a bracket or weld. That red-brown line means water is wicking under the paint and following the weld. The steel underneath is thinning. In Missouri City, that rust line means the bracket has maybe 8 to 12 months before it tears.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things on a Ghost Controls opener you can check safely. Confirm the arm is bolted tight. Look at the bracket welds with a flashlight. Take a photo. That’s useful. But welding a broken gate bracket is not a weekend homeowner project. The welds on these brackets are structural, the gate weighs hundreds of pounds, and a bad weld that pops under load sends a steel arm swinging into whatever or whoever is close.
